Today’s Bastille Day so in honour of this and without anything French springing to mind we have a car from neighbouring Italy.

Have an Alfa 147. In production for ten years from 2000, the 147 replaced the 145 and 146 and was based on the larger and four door 156. It had the usual range of Fiat petrol and diesel engines with 1.6, 2.0 and 3.2 petrol and a 1.9 diesel which had a wide range of tunes from 99 to 168 bhp.

If this lot wasn’t enough for you Autodelta built a 3.7 with 328 bhp.

Regardless of which engine you choose you got front wheel drive and some models had the soon to be notorious Selespeed automated manual.

Ove the ten years it was made 528,000 were produced, not a particularly impressive figure. It was replaced by the Giulietta, the sales figures for which make the 147 seem like a runaway success.

Note the JTD badge denoting the popular diesel.

Thought of that, but Brazil’s too far from France for Bastille Day!
